Before you go ahead and buy a pair of ballet shoes, it is important that you know exactly what it is that you are buying. Do you know what they are made of? They are usually made from satin, canvas or leather and are round at the toe. There is no heel with this type of dance shoe and the sole is very flexible.
There are some advantages and disadvantages to different material types. Here is what you need to know about each.
- Leather - On this page, you find that our shoes are made of leather. Why do we choose this material? Simply because it is known in the industry to be the best! It helps to improve the foot strength of younger and less experienced dancers and is very durable. The only negative to these shoes is that they are a more expensive fabric choice; however, as they are the most durable, they are definitely the best value for money.
- Canvas - Canvas is a good material as it is easy to clean, is cheaper and enables the shoes to be broken in faster. However, as we mentioned before, they are not as durable as our leather shoes.
- Satin - Finally, we have satin. This material is often used for ribbons and during children’s exams or competitions. This material does look fantastic, but it is not durable and will wear out very quickly.
